Wabi Sabi

Wabi Sabi (wah-bee sah-bee) is the Japanese aesthetic of beauty and harmony, the observation & appreciation of natural rhythms, constant change and continual flux. Rooted in the 15th century wabi sabi tea ceremony, wabi and sabi were originally two distinctly different words in meaning. Wabi, connotating the everyday and ordinary, is defined by living simply, close to the earth, with a bit of sadness in the contemplation of the passing of all things. Sabi, signifies elemental, bare bones perception, and the spontaneity of natural energy. Blended in use over time, wabi sabi suggests intimate, sensual perception and the appreciation of all things in mutuality, cycling in and out in eternal transition. Wabi sabi as philosophy is timeless, offering balance to the rapidly changing world of our everyday lives.
